Heavy metals in water sources presents even a greater challenge, as a low concentration of these pollutants disqualifies large volumes of drinking water.
- Drinking water usually contains competitive ions which are non-toxic, but are adsorbed by existing adsorbents in the market at the same level of affinity as the toxic ions. This results in rapid saturation of the media, translating into high operational costs.
- State of the art ion exchange solutions usually present leakage of the media components back into the treated water stream.
- State of the art adsorbed media usually need to be replaced when they reach saturation.
